If the course of ones life may be akin to the flowing of a river; it’s journey through the landscape on it’s inevitable flow towards the ocean of eternity, then my life could be seen as a waterpath of both quiet serenity and fierce rapids.

Allow me to drop a rose in the mysterious origins of this river and trace it’s journey for you: Kahzam, epicenter of ancient Mithra tribal tradition, my birthplace. My Mother and my three sisters, Ardau, Ardae and Ardai, led a very sheltered and ordered life in Kazham. My Mother, a skilled, proud huntress provided for my sisters and I in the manner and customs of all females in the village. The Jungles at our doorstep providing the ideal setting whereas the Mithran hunting senses could be sharpened into thier natural deadly resolve. Tribal order was all I knew of Vana’diel…I thought it was all I ever needed. The wars of the mysterious lands beyond the ocean were of little more than rumors, the destinies of those strange races had small impact on our quiet home.

My thirteenth year ushered in the Rite of Awakening, an ancient ceremony which confirmed or denied the Honor of a Mithra who had come of age. I will not speak of the ordeals involved for they have been guarded within our heritage since our Time began. Suffice to say after many trails my Awakening was recognized by the High Chiefteness, but the scars that body and soul endured will stay with me until I allowed to rest in the Bosom of the Great Mother and reside eternally with my Forebearers. My sisters Ardae and Ardai passed through the Rite each bearing similar grievous wounds. Ardau was defeated by the challenge and her life became forfeit to the cursed Rancor Torch. I will not speak further of this matter…her name is no longer mentioned in our tribe and she does not wait for us in our Eternal Dwelling beyond the Seventh Star.

A time of terror beset our land soon after our Rite had been bestowed; Beastmen of old had crept into our beautiful Jungle and rumors of a greater Evil began to grow. The Yuhtunga and Yhoator became names of dread. Few dared to enter. Our village was bravely defended from wave after wave of maurading Beastmen. Several Mithra perished in the years of horror including a number of our Men which was a grievous loss. My brave and honorable Mother met her fate within the Jungle, not allowing the tide of evil to sweep over her beloved tradition. Her spirit was carried into Eternity as her proud body was laid to rest within the Cauldron of Ifrit.

Kazham was close to ruin, our hope was slipping away quickly. Yet all was saved, the Great Mother had heard our pleas of mercy and answered our prayers in a way we did not expect. From a distant city called Jueno, droves of Adventurers began to arrive on our shores via huge flying vessels known as Airships. Multitudes of strange races known as Galka, Elvann, Hume, Tarutaru, even fellow Mithra all bearing allegiance to Realms I had never known: San d’Oria, Bastok, and Windurst, all answering the call to defeat the pressing threat of the Beastmen. Our Cheiftaness, in her great wisdom, happily allowed the foreigners to mingle in our village and through them Kazham prospered greatly as an outpost of trade and refuge for those that came to our shores. My sisters and I became fascinated by ideals and practices never known to our simple culture. My particular intrest became centered around the art of Magic. Thanks to the Adventurers these evil Beastmen were held back from our border and Kazham has regainined peaceful serenity. However, the Jungles remain fierce even today and only the bravest of Adventurers now traverse it’s deadly terrain. As a result our huntress way of life had been changed, the price of peace had indeed become bittersweet. Our heritage remains today as an oral tradition, a torch that must be passed to the birthed of Tomorrow if our way of life is to be preserved.

It was then my sisters and I decided to join the proud band of Adventurers and seek our destiny beyond the confines of Kahzam. Each of us holding within the tribal wisdom to safegaurd the ideals and moralities from which our lives had been nurtured. With my interest still focused on Magic, I chose to dwell in Windurst among an estranged fellowship of Mithra from distant lands and the delightful Tarutaru who welcomed me with open arms. Ardae chose to dwell in San d’Oria and Ardai in Bastok . In Windurst my amazement and respect for Vana ‘diel were renewed and the joys of discovery within this fair Realm etch themselves upon my Soul daily.
